Noida Enforces New Lane Change Rules to Enhance Road Safety

In a bid to improve road safety and alleviate traffic congestion, the Noida Traffic Police have implemented stringent lane change regulations across key stretches of the city. These measures aim to promote disciplined driving and reduce accidents caused by abrupt lane changes.

Introduction of ‘No Lane Changing Zones’

To curb reckless lane-switching, ‘No Lane Changing Zones’ have been established in areas prone to frequent accidents and traffic jams. Within these zones, changing lanes is strictly prohibited, and violations attract a fine of ₹2,000. Clear signage, such as ‘Lane Change Zone Start’ and ‘Lane Change Prohibited,’ has been installed approximately 100 meters before intersections or roundabouts to alert drivers.

Key Locations Under Surveillance

The enforcement focuses on three major stretches known for high traffic volume and frequent congestion:

Designated Lane Changing Zones

To facilitate necessary lane changes, designated zones have been established starting about 500 meters before an intersection and ending nearly 100 meters prior. Drivers are required to adjust their lanes within these zones according to their intended direction.

Penalties for Non-Compliance

Violating the lane change rules results in a fine of ₹2,000 under Section 119/177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Repeat offenders may face harsher penalties, including fines up to ₹5,000 for dangerous driving under Section 184 of the Act.

Enforcement Measures

The Noida Traffic Police have deployed personnel at the identified stretches during peak hours (8 am to 1 pm and 4 pm to 9 pm) to monitor compliance and issue challans. Plans are underway to install cameras to automate monitoring and enforcement in the coming months.
