Israel Resumes Airstrikes on Gaza, Ending Ceasefire
On March 18, 2025, Israel launched a large-scale surprise airstrike on the Gaza Strip, marking the end of a ceasefire that had held since January. The operation, which Israeli officials described as a targeted effort to dismantle Hamas leadership and infrastructure, led to the deaths of over 400 Palestinians, including many women and children.
The move came after ceasefire negotiations between the two sides stalled. According to Israeli authorities, the renewed attacks were triggered by the continued detention of Israeli hostages by Hamas and concerns over renewed hostilities. In response, Hamas condemned the airstrikes as a violation of international agreements and accused Israel of endangering hostages’ lives.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is expected to worsen significantly as a result of the strikes. The United Nations and several international organizations have expressed deep concern over the escalating conflict and urged both sides to return to the negotiating table.
This new wave of violence threatens regional stability and raises fears of a prolonged conflict. Analysts warn that unless diplomatic efforts resume promptly, the death toll and displacement could rise sharply in the coming weeks.
